One Cottage ..Two Cottage..Three Cottage ..Four

I have been working off island  on a design  project that is very traditional( kinda.. sorta). I have been wearing my interior designer "hat" and working on granite counter top choices.,cabinet styles, floor plans, lighting upgrades and colors selections  . It is miles from the cottages of Tybee Island in distance AND  in size and it has made me aware how unique cottages really are in the world today. The client and the builder have never been to any of the cottage so I am definitely sending them an ticket for the fundraiser.
On my drives back and forth to the job,I am  planning the fluffing of the cottages....what to do and when to do it....
I made up a silly poem
One cottage..two cottage... three cottage...four
It time to get ready for the cottage tour.....
(sitting at too many stop lights.)

I think cottages have a special quality and they evoke an energy that is simple and inviting.
a friend of mine gave me this great piece of block art
Each one has a different story to tell.  Some can be rented for vacations and some are personal homes. One of the cottages is owned by our favorite famous author... the wonderful and talented Mary Kay Andrews. www.marykayandrews.com. Mary Kay has a new E book coming out.( I wish I had an Ipad or Kindle) . She is fun and funny and I am so grateful she is sharing her amazing cottage. She named it Tybee Breeze after one of her novels  (Savannah Breeze one of my favorites). It is a Mermaid Cottages vacation rental www.Mermaidcottages.com and it is yummy!!!
Remember the magazine Cottage Living? I still miss it and I think it captured the style of living "Cottage". (My new term I just made up)It is relaxed and casual and happy ....Not perfect, but perfection.

The Punch List for The Coral Cottage

Daylight Savings Time.
I have never understood this..
I have no clocks in my office or my cottage....
(My Mom always said.."If you don't know what time it is you don't know your late....)

It  totally confuses my sleep time and when to feed the kitties( they don't know about Daylight savings time ) and when to schedule the first appointment of the day...
Wake up with the sun and go to sleep with the moon.....

The Good Thing.....
I have a project that is almost complete.
We are down to the PUNCH LIST..( the "if you don't get it done I am going to punch  you in the nose" list)
Just Kidding!!

The last few things that need correcting or finishing before the contractor leaves and decorating begins.
I do my best work while I am sleeping ( wish I could bill for that time) and I am working on this  punch list  even while I am sleeping, it seems.
Attention  to detail comes into play now in any restoration project.  This list is a great way to wrap up a project. There is something very satisfying about checking things off a list.

Here is a peek ...

We still need some landscaping ....but it is looking wonderful!!!

THE COTTAGE IS A VERY HAPPY PLACE.

THE OWNER OF THE COTTAGE  IS A VERY HAPPY OWNER!
Her name is Vicky Patton and she has even created a blog about this adventure . She is a very talented writer and we have a so much fun creating  The Coral Cottage. You will enjoy her blog and on this post  the "Before" of the cottage is shown.

OH YES...

AND the  contractor is especially  very very happy!!!!!!
It has been a great project and it has been a pleasure  getting to know both of them.
The Coral Cottage will be part of the fundraiser for the low cost spay and neuter clinic that the Humane Society is having December 8th on Tybee Island. www.tybeefun.com. The Jane Coslick Cottage Holiday Tour. Seventeen of the  cottages will be on the tour  and I will be sharing some photos of each of them  over the next few weeks. They will all be decorated in the "Tybee Christmas Style" which includes lots of lights and turquoise and pinks. There is definitely something magic about a palm tree full of lights in the quite darkness of a little quirky beach town.

Cathy Jarmen oozes talent and what she has done with her family beach cottage is so fabulous.
Her cottage is located 2 doors down from the wonderful  old beach house that got torn down .(I posted about it last week)
Cathy (just Google the talented shell artist) transformed every room and space. I did not have a chance to take pictures of all the room but this is a peek at her wonderful re-creation of a beach house.
