Surf Song Bed and Breakfast ...Sunrise bedroom....

Last week was a crazy one but I have to share something very unique with you. I did one special bedroom  in a Bed and Breakfast located in one of the stately old Officers Row Homes on Tybee Island.Surf Song  www.tybeesurfsong.com will be open in August and this bedroom (  We called it the penthouse while we were working on it) but the official name is Sunrise Suite.
of course, first thing..."paint it white"........
then came comfy swivel chairs  and a  calm open space and a king size bed draped with beautiful linen panels and and and ......

it feels like a magic place, a secret magic place

 a walk on the beach,a good book, a peaceful view a beautiful old historic building  with amazing  energy.
,......and did I mention the the wonderful porches and the new swimming pool

Anna is out of school for the summer and together with Amanda, a wonderful addition to our crazy crowd, we created this space for resting, restoring  rejuvenating   at the beach...

It took  much planning and many ladder and much paint!!!
It was up three flights of stairs(that have a turquoise runner) so i named it "Heaven"
We always make thing fun even if they are very difficult...if its not fun.. we don't do it!!! is the office motto!!!

Elements of the Cottage On The Green !!!!

Sharing the elements of this "more than amazing" cottage.
It is two spaces and we can't decide which is our favorite. This is just a peek of both 

 kitchen space( stove has to be moved back after the cord is replaced)

I am so lucky to have a client that loves what I love. Her daughter loves it and so does her wonderful grandson..

new that feels old...... thinking  of painting  the hinges white,,, so they don't show

When I took these photos I was walking around  checking things and making lists (we call them punch list..if you don't do the things on the list.you'll get punched...) only kidding..
As I walked  around looking at things I began to take pictures. When you see and feel it come together it is very emotional ..the noisy saws are quite , the busy carpenters, plumbers and electricians have moved on to  new projects. and now it is time for the soft furnishing....
For me,  time for reflection.. a time for being grateful for every one's hard work and cooperation , grateful for the client's trust and her wonderful  ideas.
I feel sad for it is coming to a close.. and elated  that the ideas have come to life....

The sum of all parts.(NOT JUST ONE THING).....makes things extraordinary!!!!
This historic building  restoration is a labor of love. It will soon be a cozy cottage.

The funky side of my work.

I have been  working on a few houses for the Tybee Tour of Homes( not to be confused with the winter cottage tour) which took place yesterday. I had two on the tour  and they were  so different I wonder if anyone notice I had done both of them..... I think today I am loopy and exhausted but I wanted to share a few photos .. to remember what I did. The tour was a great success.... the money going to the Tybee Food Bank and the new charter Maritime  Satellite School.

I had Peter add little awnings over the windows and the swing for a little added fluffing ...( could someone move the tree to the left a bit for a better view of the marsh tee hee)

On the other end of the island, Wren's Nest, one  of the larger homes on the tour..I call it the Palace Cottage... it is one of my most favorite projects. It is now a vacation rental www.tybeecottages.com when my client is away for long periods of time.

 Next week there is magic in the room in the clouds that I am 

designing for a bed and breakfast on Tybee. Of course it all begins with white and the view at the top will feel like heaven...We painted a turquoise runner on the stairs to the room and soon we will be draping the bed in netting and adding the finishing touches. (will share the process)
