This is an old Tybee Cottage that has been given a death sentence!!!!! The owners want to to build a new home . Hopefully they will let someone move it to a lot and restore it.
Fighting to save the old cottages of Tybee is a full time job. It doesn't pay in money but in the end the rewards are amazing.
This old cottage need to be moved(I have the house mover) and it needs a lot to be moved on to and restored.
If it were in Key West ..it would be done. For some reason our city is not protective of the history of our Island. The permitting department discourages instead of helping to save them. These little Gems bring so many visitors to our Island.
Any thoughts?

Boy do I wish I had the money to do it, I jump on that offer. I love Tybee so much, you have no idea how bad I want to live out there.
ReplyDeletePower to you Jane - I have put a link on my latest post about your wonderful conservation work because i am absolutely certain there are people out there who would love to have a cottage like this even if they don't know it yet!
ReplyDeleteWish I had the $ to do this...hoping that the cottage can be saved. It would be such a shame to lose it. Wishing for the best....
ReplyDeleteJane... have you thought about Kickstart, the business start up .com? I know I donated money to Jitterbug Cafe when it was starting up. I would definitely give money for this project. If enough people give, you can make it work! Then, there would be another cottage to rent on Tybee! (I would so finance this myself if I had the funds!)
ReplyDeleteIf I could, I would grab it in a minute! So much potential! I hope someone with your vision buys it soon.
ReplyDeletejust another...
ReplyDelete"so wish i had any money" comment.
but i mean it! it just needs to go viral or something...
your whole site does!
surely in all your coastal magazine etc. connections...
someone could save it!
love and holding only good thoughts,

I've been wanting to come to Tybee to look for a cottage since we sold our home in St Simonsa couple of months ago. Maybe this is the ONE. Any ballpark idea how much it costs to move a cottage these days?
ReplyDeleteIt depends how far it is going?
ReplyDeleteOh Jane...if I could win the Lotto...I would move it....only if you would help to restore it!

DeleteHow much are the owners wanting for the cottage? My husband and I have been looking for an "original" Tybee cottage to buy and have not been able to find what we are looking for! I know there are several lots for sale at this time that we could move it to! Please send me more information if possible! My email is kimberly_neville@yahoo.com
ReplyDeletePlease let us know what happens with this. We want an original cottage someday too, but are yet a few years away. Too bad. Timing is sometimes eveything.
ReplyDeleteThanks for caring!!!!
DeleteWhere is it on Tybee? We'd love to look at it. We have a lot in mid-beach area.
ReplyDelete105 2nd ave

ReplyDeleteI just tweeted a link on my page Mabey some one will restore it
DeleteThanks matthew.cottages is in bad shape but roof looks good. It is very special and needs tons of TLC
DeleteJane what is the footprint size? I've got the lot on Tybee, but the building department is getting insane with the setbacks and restrictions. I heard that the setbacks are now VERTICAL. someone just had to have the trim taken off their house because it was encroaching on the setbacks!!
ReplyDeleteSo I think I have to build something custom because these old cottages are like fighting a battle with the building department. Not to mention with the new FEMA regs, the house will have to be on piers too.
Well it will have to be brought up to code.it isnt large what is your foot print size?
DeleteI've got a 20'X27' footprint to work with. it might be too tight. hopefully someone can save this! (I'm over on Naylor)
