  1. Hi Jane
So fabulous to be able to chat with you! Just a question re headboards. I absolutely LOVE the idea of making headboards out of unique materials. I have managed to find 3 vintage casement windows and want to use them as a headboard for my guest bedroom. There is only 1 panel which still has the original ripple glass - the rest are empty. I am toying with the idea of either (a) putting different coloured ripple glass in random panels OR (b) mounting different fabrics onto plyboard and using them in the panels. What do you think?

  3. I love your fabric choices. Do you use home decor weight fabrics or lighter weight? Where do you find most of your fabrics?

  4. I would use fabrics or just hang the windows without anything in them . the shape of the window with the metal is very nice as an interesting headboard. Send mee a photo when you are finished

  5. Just another question re colours. When choosing colours for accessories in a room, i.e. cushions, curtains, quilts etc. (given that you have a white/blank canvas to work with) - how do you manage to be able to get all those fabulous combinations you are able to achieve Jane? Do you use something specific as a "jumping off" point, say the various colours in a patterned quilt or a piece of artwork, and then select the colours from that to match? For me, it just seems so tricky to be able to co-ordinate different fabrics (colours/patterns) in a room and making it look good.

  6. I have a lakefront cottage with beige vinyl siding and white windows and doors. Do have have a suggestion for shutters that would give the appearance a little more zip?
    Thanks

  7. No, they are timber with the original metal hinges still in place.
Chippy white - which I will probably sand back even more to let more of the timber come through.

  8. Peggy, In most cases I use 54" wide fabrics from place like GDC in Charleston sc or on line Forsyth Fabrics in Atlanta . or Discount Fabris in Bluffton SC. I love fabrics and they add so much and can change so much about a room.I will post their contact in a bit.

  9. Golden Valley 50..
every room can have a floral , a stripe ,a check a large print, a small print as long as there is a single color that can tie them together (have one fabric be your "anchor fabric') and work out from there. Hold several fabrics to gether and see how they look and feel to you. and then try them in your space before investing ..in large amounts

  11. Thanks so much for the opportunity to be able to chat with you this morning Jane (it's 2 a.m. here in Far North Queensland, Australia and I have had to set my alarm to make this date!) I absolutely adore your blog and your style - fits our tropical lifestyle so perfectly. It is so refreshing to find a designer who is not afraid of colour. Love it! (Going to be hard to get back to sleep now with all these ideas spinning around in my head - lol!) Thanks once again ;)Sharyne

  12. Kitty and Dale, Always consider your neighbors house when adding color(if you have any). If not add a color that makes you happy when you first drive up to it. Navy is great with beige and white.. also reds an greens and turquoise. Adding shutters and painting the front door annd adding window boxes are also a way to add some color happiness. Paint a sample of a few choices on a 2'x2' section of something and lean it against the siding .. stand back and ponder it for a while..

  13. Catherine. Thanks you very much for saying that. I believe that design and color are good for the soul. I could never draw or paint but I love sharing what I do and helping others make their "nest" a happy place .. whether they live there, rent there or visit there.
