The Power of Pillows

As a designer, I try to create fun and unique things that are interesting and cost effective. A throw pillow makes a great statement  and the money invested can be minimal...(over over the top expensive)
A pillow can change a room.
A pillow can be the point of focus
Pillows are very important on daybeds for support.
Pillows can change so much easier than paint, wallpaper and furniture.
I personally use pillows to keep the focus on the positive and away from the negative
I am busy working on the new cottages for the upcoming tour for the Humane Society December 7th.Information and tickets sales information are at  www.tybeefun.com
I am donating pillows to the Humane Society so they can buy toys and blankets for the animals this winter.
Some pillow covers will be on sale at one of the cottages.. The.Blue Bird Inn.

Sometime events happen in one's life that puts things in a different perspective.
I am doing some shedding.. so drop by the pillow party...There will be pillow covers  and cottage books for sale.

. I always recommend down inserts for pillow because they make the pillow conform to you and not make you want to throw them out of your way....They do however have to be fluffed from time to time.

A FEW PILLOWS I HAVE KNOWN.........
the palm tree  euro shams are made from a shower curtain MY favorite pillows is in the center

day beds are like sofas..if you use enough pillows for support
(this is my happy place in Colorado)

a daybed can have lots of pillows( a basket near by for the pillows to rest in while it is being used as a bed)

a pillow made from a table cloth (Athropologie)

a mix of pillow textures for interest

this room with it's pillows is magic and you can sleep here if you want to www.tybeecottages.com
I use the tub at my office for storage of pillows recognize any of these?
pillows and paintings ..a great combination
.
a mix of colors and fabrics and great art!!!

My Favorite Things...

In the design business I get to look at beautiful and interesting things all the time.
I think that is a GREAT job!
Oh. it has it's moments, but most of the time it makes me blissfully happy.
When I get to select everything for the project.... I call that " the Dream job".
When I  have to work with the client's own selections that I call the ...."Interesting job"
It is like working a puzzle and when it is all put together .. it is a magical moment.  The client is happy and that makes me very happy.
At the end of every job and every day, I still have my  favorite things that give me incredible pleasure no matter what amazing things I see.

my favorite headboard...

and favorite bed linens
my favorite chair
my favorite bathroom ( because I could take an outdoor shower right thru that french door in the mirror)
the indoor outdoor shower

my favorite rocking chair.... if I ever go missing...look right here

Every time I finish a project.. I feel a sense of loss. It is an all consuming  thing and I leave a bit of myself in each and every project. I design as if it were my own home and so it must be comfortable and functional. A happy place with opportunity for making great and wonderful memories. Sitting quite in each room give me the awareness of the space.... in the beginning of the project and at the end....

Here is a tiny peek..of this amazing project..

On A Working Holiday....

I am at Marabou Ranch outside of Steamboat Springs Colorado........on a working holiday. I am busy but sit here every chance I get because I love this chair....

My favorite favorite rocking chair!!!!
http://www.marabouranch.com/

Steamboat Magazine wrote a story about the project Anna and I did at Marabou Ranch  last year. I took so many  funny photos and some great ones but never had time to post them. I am here now but cant work this computer to load my one million photos.
. Colorado is beautiful, Steamboat is wonderful and Marabou Ranch is off the charts. The article is linked on the Press button on my web site.
Bellamy painted some awesome paintings for the project.( she is part cowgirl) I bought some funky funky pieces in Savannah and I had the chance to do what I love on the Elk River 20 minutes outside of Steamboat .
I could have been a cowgirl/ or maybe I was an indian in another life. I love nature and the earth and I love the difference between the ocean and the mountains. This project was a chance for major " nest building" while the cattle  and horses watched us thru the windows and the white owl scared Anna as it flew from its spot on the rafters of the porch late one night as we were hurrying to complete this project.
My favorite favorite thing was the rocking chair that bought for $400.00 dollars (that had a $1200.00 price tag). My friend and favorite upholsterer,Larry Davis ( Davis Upholstery) in Savannah Georgia) cover it in a  cowhide that  I bought years ago and has been savings for ME. When it was  done, it was all I could do to put it on the truck bound for Steamboat.

Back in town on Sunday with so many photos for my blog.

Surfer Girl Embraces the Cowgirl Lifestyle

The Steamboat Pilot covered my design work on the Blalock house in Colorado in this great article. I'm not ready to exchange my flip flops for cowboy boots yet, but it was a wonderful experience to work on this ranch project.

My Favorite Bathroom

I have been working on a project outside of Steamboat Springs and just returned to Tybee Isand. This is a shot of my favorite Tybee bathroom.
I also want to share some of the "South meets the West" photos but am just getting the hang of the blog so my Colorado pictures will appear in future posts.
I am amazed how far the blogs reach around the world and I am delighted that so many can share in the work that I love so much . I have just recently learned about other blogs too which share the love of creating fun and fabulous things.
